Gemstone Sewing Pins!

A super fun and simple project that will bring a little more warmth and beauty into your sewing life. These types of beautifying projects really reminds you to enjoy the little things. Really, I almost like looking at them in my selenite pin bowl than I do using them, that's how much happiness they give me beyond their function. Not to mention, they are gorgeous in pictures and they make a special project that much more special. So to kick off my blog, I wanted to share this simple project and how I made them, not because its hard to do, but just to remind you that you can!! Materials/Supplies:

• For these pins you will want to find yourself some longer pins. The ones I use are glass head pins that measure 1 - 7/8". I'm sure you can use shorter pins, but you have a lot more room to play and for functionality if they're longer!

• To attach your doodads, you will want to either choose some small metal crimp beads, or a strong glue (think superglue or e-6000), I use both depending on what I'm attaching.

• Doo-dads! Collect a bunch of little beads, shells, pearls, and gemstones, whatever makes you happy! For pins I tend to like less bulk so my pin can still sit fairly flat on my fabric. So consider choosing gems and beads that are smaller or flatter. Blister pearls can work well, and I also really like teardrop shaped beads because they feel nice in your hands when you use them :)

• Flat nose pliers, you could probably use crimping pliers but I don't think it's necessary.

Putting the pieces together:

________________________________ • If you are using crimp beads, simply place on your bead(s) then slide on your crimp bead. Hold the crimp bead centered and press your crimp bead flat with your pliers, squishing down both sides on either side of the pin. Once the crimp bead has a hold of your pin, don't overdo it or you will break your crimp bead. It's not the end of the world if you do, you will probably break a few during this project!

• The other simple solution is placing the tiniest dot of glue just under the glass head and sliding your bead over.

Over time the crimp beads will loose their hold a bit with use, and I have to push some of mine back into place. If that bothers you, you can always replace the crimp bead! Just carefully crush the crimp bead with your pliers to remove it so you don't scratch you pin trying to slide them off.
